Professional Experience
Shortly after graduating from Louisiana State University Law School in 1968, Mr. Shapiro served on active duty with the Louisiana National Guard, after which he served for two years as law clerk for United States District Judge Nauman S. Scott in the Western District of Louisiana. He then moved to the office of the District Attorney for the Ninth Judicial District, where he assumed the duties of a felony prosecutor, serving as Chief of the Felony Section from 1976 to 1978. Thereafter, he entered private practice. His career in provide practice has consisted of civil litigation and criminal defense, and throughout the years, he's litigated cases involving such varied issues as medical malpractice, securities fraud, legal malpractice, death cases, off-shore accidents, land titles, liens and privileges, probate matters, and many other types of cases. He has appeared in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, all Federal District Courts in Louisiana , and two of the Federal District Courts in Texas . Mr. Shapiro now limits his practice to personal injury and wrongful death cases (involving any type of accident), medical malpractice, legal malpractice, and divorce litigation.
Education
Mr. Shapiro graduated from Louisiana State University and A & M College in 1965 with a B.S. degree. In 1968 he received his Juris Doctor degree and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar on August 29, 1968.
Community Involvement
Through the years Mr. Shapiro has been involved in a number of community activities: he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Louisiana Army National Guard, Little League baseball coach, the City of Alexandria Housing Code Committee, the Indigent Defender Board for the Ninth Judicial District, Board Member of the Alexandria Bar Association, and chaired various committees of the Alexandria-Pineville Chamber of Commerce. He now serves on the Board of Directors of Congregation B'nai Israel and as President of the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Louisiana.
